My Oma

I've been MIA. Busy with work, mending a heart.

My Oma passed away on February 19.
After a two-year battle with cancer, she passed away surrounded by family as my sister and I sang her favorite hymns to her. It was one of the hardest, scariest and most spiritual experiences.

My heart hurts and my head was filled with cotton (or foggy), but slowly the time between crying is getting longer and longer.

My Oma and I were working on her life story for the past few months. We spent hours of one on one time that I am so grateful for. The more I learned about her, the more impressed and proud I was to be her granddaughter.

I was privileged to write her obituary and to give her life story at her funeral. President Uchtdorf attended her funeral (a close friend of her sister, Trudy) and I was lucky enough to meet him. He told me that I was a good granddaughter which was exactly what I needed to hear even if I am not always sure that I believe it. What I do believe is that we will see each other again one day.

She loved her German heritage (all of the grandkids have worn a dirndl or lederhosen at one point in their childhood) and she gave me my first opportunity to use my passport.

I loved her laugh and I loved teasing her to get her to laugh. I always knew that she loved me and it was one of the last things she said to me.

Still miss her. Always will.
